About the model
Production years: 1956–19??
A 23-seat bus with a carriage-type body on a wooden frame, based on the units of the GAZ-51A truck.
The bus was developed in the mid-1950s under the direction of Kaunas Car Repair Plant engineers Paulavičius and Pupeika, based on the GAZ-51A, and went into production in 1956.
Four series of the KAG-3 can be distinguished; the first two can be recognised by their three-piece windscreen.
As far as is known, more than 12,000 KAG-3s were built, probably including bodies rebuilt during major overhauls. The exact end of production is not known.
The following variants were also built on the KAG-3:
- KAG-31 multi-purpose van
- KAG-32 bread van
- KAG-33 special vehicle for road workers
- KAG-34 special vehicle for carrying explosives
- KAG-317 service bus
- mail vans
