About the model

Production years: 1959–76 (BTR-60 series) A four-axle amphibious armoured personnel carrier. The vehicle was developed in the mid-1950s at the GAZ plant under V. Dedkov as a replacement for the BTR-152 and went into production in 1959 at GAZ's Arzamas branch, which built military equipment. Over 17 years more than 10,000 of these armoured vehicles were built. The vehicle has a closed boat-shaped all-metal hull; all four axles are driven and have independent torsion-bar suspension, and the two front axles are also steered. It is powered by two 90–115 hp (depending on version) GAZ-49 inline-6 petrol engines at the rear (the left one drives axles 1 and 3, the right one axles 2 and 4). The clutch is single-plate, and each engine has its own gearbox. For moving in water there is a water-jet mechanism at the rear of the hull.
