Story of the exhibit

Former van of Kadrina EPT, brought to Estonia in May 1989 as one of two identical vehicles (the other went to the Rakvere Bread Combine). It served the Kadrina EPT canteen. After the change of regime it passed to Kadrina Rural Municipality, and in 1996 its former driver Hillar Purk bought it. It was used as a utility vehicle on a farm near Kadrina, and later as a storeroom. After Hillar Purk's death in 2007 the vehicle passed to his wife Aili Purk, who decided in 2008 to hand it over to the Järva-Jaani Old Tech Park. It is the only surviving vehicle of this type known for certain in Estonia; an estimated 5–6 examples of this model arrived in Estonia in the late 1980s. The van was originally a refrigerated vehicle, but the refrigeration unit was already removed at Kadrina EPT.

About the model

Production years: 198?–2002 This van with an 800-kilogram payload was planned as the successor of the JerAZ-762. Design work by NAMI began in 1967 (as the JerAZ-763), and the first prototypes were completed in 1972–73. Externally the van resembled several small vans of US and British companies of the time (square body, sliding doors for driver and passenger), and its engineering was based on Volga units. Getting the new model into production, however, proved extremely difficult – Yerevan simply could not create the necessary production resources (there were even difficulties supplying the plant with electricity and heat!). So only a few prototypes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, including 10 refrigerated vans to serve the Moscow Olympics and 26 electric vehicles for tests at a Moscow motor combine. Small numbers of the model went into production at the Yerevan plant's special series workshop in the late 1980s, and at that time a few examples also came to Estonia. The model was in series production from 1995 until the early 2000s, when the plant went bankrupt. The JerAZ-37302 is the refrigerated van version of the 3730 generation. The plant, which had previously built forklifts, was turned into a car plant in 1965 by decision of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR. It began producing the van version of the Riga plant's RAF-977, designated JerAZ-762. With few changes this model was built until the mid-1990s. The main…
