About the model
Production years: RS 09: 1957–1959; RS 09-2: 1959–1963/64; RS 09/122: 1963/64 – late 1960s; RS 09/124: 1963/64–1972
Production of the RS 09 tool-carrier tractor, well known to Estonian farmers, began at the Schönebeck tractor plant in 1957. The first tractors of this make worked on Estonian fields in 1963 (*) and, thanks to their versatility, immediately won over machine operators, agronomists and farm managers alike. This was already the much more refined RS 09-2. In 1965 (*) the even more refined RS 09/122 began arriving at our collective and state farms, and in 1968 (*) the RS 09/124. The latter already had a four-cylinder air-cooled 25 hp diesel engine (earlier RS 09 models had 2-cylinder engines).
Our farmers valued the RS 09 highly for its versatility. About 30 mounted and towed implements could be used with these tractors! (*). Although the RS 09 generally disappeared from the fields of large farms by the early 1980s at the latest, many examples, now around 40 years old on average, are still working on small farms!
The tractor at the Old Tech Park is an RS 09/124, originally with a four-cylinder engine, but a two-cylinder engine can also be fitted (the engine is currently missing).
