About the model

A front-wheel-drive hatchback city car.
The car was developed at the Serpukhov motorcycle plant in the late 1970s to replace the outdated SZD invalid carriage; development was later taken over by VAZ. The design was inspired by the 1980 Daihatsu Cuore, and the engine was a halved (2-cylinder) VAZ-2108 engine. It was built at the VAZ plant from 1988 to 1994, at KamAZ's subsidiary ZMA until 2005 and in Serpukhov until 2008. The base model was a hatchback, but various vans were later also available. The Oka was never officially sold in Estonia.
