Story of the exhibit
Tõnu Paalmäe remembers: This motorcycle was bought new from the Märjamaa consumer cooperative shop in 1972. It is the last of the so-called old-type Jawas sold in the shop; the next year the new, angular model came out. This Jawa already has the new model's front mudguard as original, which earlier ones did not have. I have had it since spring 1983, so exactly 30 years – I am the second owner. It falls short of being fully original in that the so-called aeroplane wings were sawn off and IZh-Jupiter handlebars fitted, and new Jawa silencers, sawn shorter, were also fitted. The seat leather has been replaced and a new Barum tyre bought for the rear. Everything else is original. The mileage is also relatively low: I rode a few thousand kilometres on it, and the previous owner didn't ride much either – it stood in his shed for the last years. Fit the ignition key and I believe it will start, though third gear tended to jump out on longer rides.
