Story of the exhibit

A large tractor with a winch-lifted ripper. It belonged to the Järva-Jaani collective farm; after the farm was reorganised, Karinu PM Ltd became its owner. It was brought straight from the edge of the silage pit where it had stood in recent years. A characteristic detail is the upside-down bucket on the exhaust pipe to keep rain out of the system.

About the model

Production years: T-100M: 1963–1975; T-100M3: 1975–early 1980s In 1963 the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant began producing the T-100M, a general-purpose crawler tractor of the 6 t (60 kN) drawbar class under the Soviet classification, built in place of the earlier S-100 and T-108 models. From the mid-1970s, after some minor design changes, the tractor was produced as the T-100M3. All other existing T-100M variants were from then on also built on the T-100M3. All these tractors were designed for various work in agriculture, land improvement, construction and other sectors of the economy. The T-100M was produced in various versions: T-100M – base model; T-100MGP – with hydraulics and front linkage; T-100MGS – with hydraulics and rear linkage; T-100MB – with wide tracks, the so-called swamp tractor, and others. The T-100M has a four-stroke four-cylinder D-108 diesel engine with 108 hp. The engine is started by a four-stroke two-cylinder P-23 carburettor engine (pony engine) with 17 hp, which itself is started with a crank handle or an electric starter. Other T-100M technical data: Speeds in different gears (km/h): 1st gear: forward 2.36, reverse 2.80 2nd gear: forward 3.78, reverse 4.46 3rd gear: forward 4.51, reverse 5.34 4th gear: forward 6.45, reverse 7.61 5th gear: forward 10.15, reverse – Overall dimensions (mm): Length 4255 Width 2460 Height 3059 Kerb weight: 11,400 kg Ground pressure: 0.48 kg/cm² Diesel fuel tank capacity: 235 l The T-100M3 differs from its predecessor, the T-100M, only in the following: 1.) a single-lever control system for operating the steering clutches and brakes at the same time (like its successor, the T-130); 2.) drive sprockets like those of the T-130; 3.) one carrier roller on each track (the T-100M has 2). Otherwise the T-100M and T-100M3 are identical in design. In the 1970s T-100 series crawler tractors were widespread here in land improvement work, with bulldozers, rippers and other mounted implements. From the early 1980s they were gradually replaced by the T-130 series, and at the end of the decade T-170 series machines began arriving instead.
