Story of the exhibit

A former tipper, probably of the Juuru collective farm, bought new; it was one of the first trucks of this type acquired for Estonia. After the collective farms were wound up it passed into private ownership, later it was sold to Lääne-Viru County, and in recent years it stood unused near Simuna. In normal condition and able to move. Machinery enthusiast Ants Raud helped a great deal in acquiring the vehicle.

About the model

Production years: 1984–1998 A four-wheel-drive tipper for farm haulage, the successor of the KAZ-608V versions. It was designed jointly by the Kutaisi Automobile Plant, the NAMI institute in Moscow, the Yaroslavl engine plant and the Balashov tractor and car trailer design bureau. The truck used the JaMZ-642 V6 diesel based on the KamAZ-740 engine of KamAZ trucks; the gearbox and axles were of entirely original design. The eight-speed gearbox gave a speed range of 3...70 km/h. Payload was 5.5 tonnes; it was designed to work with the GKB-8535 tipping trailer with a 5.5-tonne payload. It was built from 1984 to 1998; small numbers also reached Estonia in the late 1980s and early 1990s (a few are still in use). There were plans to develop a whole model family (flatbed 4360, four-wheel-drive tractor unit 4440, three-axle version), but these were cut short by the collapse of the USSR and the weak economy of newly independent Georgia. Technical data: Engine JaMZ-642 (shortened KamAZ-740); liquid-cooled V6 diesel; 8140 cm3; 118 kW/160 hp Gearbox: 8 speeds Permanent four-wheel drive, differential locks Tyres: 14.57/80-20 Dimensions (LxWxH): 6810x2500x2810 mm Internal body dimensions: 4400x2300x680 mm Wheelbase: 3600 mm Ground clearance: 290 mm Payload: 5500 kg Gross weight: 12,150 kg Top speed of road train: 70 km/h Min. speed of road train: 3 km/h Trailer: GKB-8535
