Chernihiv Special Vehicle Plant / plant «Kinotekhprom»

Черниговский завод спецавтотранспорта (ЧЗСА) / завод «Кинотехпром»

Country: Ukraine
City: Chernihiv

The plant began in the 1940s under the name "Kinoremsnab"; it originally made film cans and later also special vehicles for film studios based on GAZ and ZiS trucks. In 1959 the plant was named "Kinotekhprom"; the first ChPK bus (Chernigovskii proizvodstvennyi kombinat, Chernihiv production combine) was built by enthusiasts at the plant in 1962, based on the GAZ-51A and ordered by the local children's puppet theatre. Goskino liked the vehicle, and the plant was invited to build buses in small series. The main users of Chernihiv products were cultural institutions. At its best, nearly 100 buses a month left the plant gates; around 1986 the plant was renamed the Chernihiv special motor transport plant. Its best-known and most common bus was the AStCh-03 (avtobus spetsialnyi chernigovskii, Chernihiv special bus), built in 1972–98. Today the plant makes van bodies and other small-series products.
