Rostov combine plant «Rostselmash»

Завод «Ростсельмаш»

Country: Russian SFSR, USSR
City: Rostov-on-Don

The plant's birthday is considered to be 21 July 1929. At first it made various farm implements, but from the early 1930s it began to specialise in grain combines. Several models of the towed "Stalinets" combine were built, and from the end of 1956 to the beginning of 1958 the RSM-8 combine.

The first self-propelled combine was the SK-3, built from July 1958. In February 1962 production of the SK-4 combine began, which stayed on the assembly line for a full 11 years. In the early years of production the combine had the SMD-7 diesel engine (the same engine as the SK-3), which was later replaced by the SMD-14. The SK-4 won several awards at international exhibitions: a first-class diploma at the 1963 Leipzig Fair, a medal in Czechoslovakia in 1964 and the highest award, the "Silver Cup", in Hungary the same year. In 1969 the millionth combine left the gates of "Rostselmash".

In 1973 production of the SK-5 Niva combine began, which in modernised form is still on the assembly line today! Preparations for producing the new generation of Don combines began in the early 1980s. The plant built its two-millionth combine in February 1984, and in 1986 the first series-built Don-1500 combines left the assembly line. Today four grain combine models are built, as well as the Don-680 self-propelled forage harvester.
