Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant
Челябинский тракторный завод
The history of the plant begins on 1 June 1933, when it delivered its first products – S-60 (Stalinets-60) crawler tractors with a 60 hp kerosene engine. From then on the plant became Russia's leading manufacturer of powerful crawler tractors. In 1937 series production of the S-65 tractor with a 65 hp diesel engine began; in May of that year it won the highest award, the Grand Prix diploma, at the World Exhibition in Paris.
During the Second World War the plant built tanks, tank engines and ammunition. In 1946 production of the S-80 tractor began, which, unlike earlier models, already had an enclosed cab. S-80 tractors were widely used to break virgin lands in the 1950s. At the end of the 1950s it was replaced by the S-100, and from 1961 the DET-250 tractor with diesel-electric transmission and a 310 hp engine was also built.
Then for a while the transitional T-108 was built, which differed from the S-100 mainly in having the D-108 engine of the next, T-100 generation (the S-100 had the KDM-100 engine), while keeping the S-100's familiar cab with its vertical front wall.
In 1963 production of the T-100M began; in 1964 it was built in 22 versions. From the mid-1970s the T-100M3 was built instead, with a few rather minor design differences from the T-100M. Production of the T-100 series ended completely in the early 1980s. T-100 generation tractors can be distinguished from the S-100 by their cab with a sloping front wall.
In 1971 the plant was named after V. I. Lenin.
From the end of the 1970s the T-130 tractor was built. The millionth tractor was built on 3 November 1984. In 1988 series production of the T-170 began, replacing the T-130. The T-130 and T-170 were also built in many versions, including wide-track variants.
At the end of 1990 the first T10 tractor with a hydromechanical transmission was completed, but its series production only began in 2002.
Today the plant's range is wide: it builds T10M, T10MB and DET-250M2 tractors, bulldozers based on them, pipelayers, loaders, vibratory rollers, diesel engines, diesel generators and small tractors.
The plant was awarded the Order of Kutuzov, 1st class, in 1945, the Order of Lenin in 1971 and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1983.
