About the model
Production years: 1967–1986
The successor of the Mercedes-Benz L319/L406 van series, it went into production in 1967 at the Düsseldorf van plant, which also gave these vehicles their nickname "Düsseldorfer Transporter".
The vehicle was built in three body types: van, flatbed (including double cab) and bus. In the 1970s these vehicles were also sold under the Hanomag-Henschel name, differing from the Mercedes versions in their modified headlights and grille.
In 1981 the series was facelifted: the biggest difference from the earlier version is the plastic grille. Production ended in 1986 after about 450,000 had been built.
