MTZ-05 after being completed with its original drive wheels and trailer
Story of the exhibit
The tractor has belonged from the start to Tuve Kärner, the current leader of the Järva-Jaani Old Tech Park. Since spring 2007 it has been on deposit at the Old Tech Park to show visitors this tractor model too. Besides the single-axle trailer seen in the photos, the tractor comes with a number of farm implements.
About the model
Production years: mid-1980s – ?
The MTZ-05 tractor is designed for work in vegetable gardens, on the trial plots of research institutes and breeding stations, and in fruit and vegetable gardens. It can plough lighter soils, harrow, cultivate potatoes and beets, mow hay, haul loads and drive stationary machines.
The MTZ-05 has a two-wheeled chassis and a 4-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled UD-15 carburettor engine with 2.9 kW (4 hp), made by the Petropavlovsk small-engine plant. It is steered with a two-handled steering column that can be reversed so that the tractor can also be steered in reverse gears. The gearbox has 4 forward gears (speeds 2.15 to 9.6 km/h) and 2 reverse gears (2.5 to 4.46 km/h). The track width is adjustable to 450, 600 (standard) or 700 mm. The tractor has an independent PTO turning at 1000 rpm at an engine speed of 3000 rpm. A special hitch at the rear is used to attach implements. Extra weights can be fitted to the drive wheels – 2 on each wheel, each weighing 17 kg.
The set of implements for the tractor includes the PH-0.5 single-axle semi-trailer with brakes, the P-1 mounted plough, the OK-2 ridging plough, the KP-70 cultivator, the 1 N-90 harrow and the KH-1 mower; to work with the mower the steering column is reversed and the tractor is driven in reverse gears.
In Estonia the MTZ-05 went on sale to private gardeners in the mid-1980s.
