Story of the exhibit

The owner deposited the car with the museum so that many visitors could see an unusual example of the Soviet car industry. Compared with the original, the vehicle at the Old Tech Park has been quite heavily modified.

About the model

Production years: 1943–1953 In 1941 the Gorky Automobile Plant began producing the GAZ-64, the first Soviet light off-road vehicle (in the following years the general name "jeep" came to describe this type of vehicle). In the following years the vehicle was thoroughly modernised (the track was widened from 1250 to 1440 millimetres, the body shape was changed and so on), and from 1943 (according to other sources 1942) it was produced as the GAZ-67. After some further improvements to the design, from 1944 the model designation became GAZ-67B. Naturally, the vehicle (like its predecessors GAZ-64 and GAZ-67) was developed primarily for military use, and the BA-64 and BA-64B armoured cars were also built on it. GAZ-67Bs built after the Second World War differ from their wartime siblings in the radiator grille (soldered on wartime examples, pressed after the war). In total 62,843 GAZ-67s and GAZ-67Bs were built, many of which were still in active use in the 1980s. At least two are on display in museums: the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow and the Gorky plant museum.
